Who could relate to a bunch of guys who took Saskatchewan when they might have had Acapulco?

Other

Here's where I put everything that didn't fit into the other categories. That's not to say the information here is less important -- though some of it is, in fact, pure self-promotion -- just tougher to slot into a subject box.

Additional services

  • Public speaking. I used to be afraid to get up and speak in front of groups of people. After more than a dozen years of working alone at home, however, I now have a hard time shutting up when I leave the house, and the more people willing to listen to me, the better. I was on the faculty of the Society of American Travel Writers Institute for Travel Writers and Photographers for several years; participated as a panelist at the Public Relations Society of America meeting held in Tucson; and, most recently, spoke at the Arizona Media Marketplace in Scottsdale.

  • Coaching. Struggling with your writing? I'll help you find your voice and discover which writing methods work best for you, as well as teach you how revise your own work.

  • Personal travel consulting. Tell me what types of things you like to see and do when you travel, where you like to stay and eat; I'll recommend destinations, activities, lodgings, and restaurants in Arizona, Mexico, Austin, and San Antonio, my main areas of travel expertise.

Upcoming Appearances

Here’s proof that I do occasionally leave the house.

On September 15-16th, I will be doing a workshop on travel writing for the Society of Southwestern Authors’ Wrangling with Writing Conference, as well as conducting one-on-one sessions.

On Thursday, October 5, I will be on the panel of judges tasked with sampling and choosing the best margarita as part of the 5th Annual Tucson Culinary Festival . It’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it. Why me? I happen to be a tequila maven, with pieces in National Geographic Traveler, Tucson Guide, Wine Spirits Quarterly (Pennsylvania) and on the Arizona Office of Tourism* website – not to mention lots of bar hours -- to show for it.
